Cascadia helps launch the Carbon Coaches Program
October 09, 2009 -
Seattle’s pilot Carbon Coach Program began this Thursday, October 8th with 31 Seattle residents participating as Carbon Coach Volunteers.

The Carbon Coach program is a partnership between the City of Seattle and Washington State University with Cascadia managing climate action training and outreach efforts with community volunteers. Similar to other programs Cascadia manages, this is a train-the-trainer program which will include training sessions over the course of six weeks.

Participants will learn about how transportation, solid waste generation, energy and water use, and purchasing choices impact a person’s carbon footprint. They will also learn about civic engagement, policy development, carbon offsets, and more! After successfully completing the program, these new volunteers will branch out into their communities to collect Action Plan Pledges from 30 Seattle residents by December 31, 2009. Cascadia created the Action Plan Pledge as a social marketing tool based on Seattle Climate Action Network’s updated, more comprehensive carbon calculator and action planner to be released later this fall.
