Cascadia News
The City of Seattle recently received news that they were among the 25 communities selected for the Department of Energy’s Retrofit Ramp-Up program out of over 150 applicants. The funds will be used to create the Seattle Neighborhood WEB (Weatherize Every Building) Initiative, a concentrated effort that will facilitate deep energy efficiency retrofits in homes, businesses, hospitals, and municipal facilities in South Seattle.
Throughout November and December of last year Cascadia worked closely with the City of Seattle’s Office of Sustainability and the Environment (OSE) to help prepare the grant submittal. Cascadia and OSE facilitated a one month series of collaborative meetings throughout the design process of the Neighborhood WEB Initiative with a core group of Seattle stakeholders representing the energy services sector, energy efficiency finance experts, workforce representatives, public and private utilities, and multiple public agencies.
Mayor Mike McGinn and WEB Initiative Principal Investigator, Mike Mann, travelled to the White House on Earth Day to accept the award from Vice President Joe Biden.
