As a lead sustainability expert at Cascadia, Michelle works with clients to design and implement initiatives that conserve resources, reduce climate impacts, and contribute to a more sustainable future. Michelle is experienced in conducting research and analysis, developing performance measures, engaging stakeholders, and providing strategic guidance on topics such as energy efficiency, climate change, waste management, recycling market development, sustainable development, and parks and open space. Over the last ten years, Michelle has developed sustainability strategies for numerous Northwest cities and counties; led the design of a statewide effort to promote sustainable business practices as part of the Washington Department of Ecology’s “Beyond Waste” Plan; and created resources and tools to help businesses and governments mitigate climate impacts. She has helped secure more than $2 million in Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) funds, bringing energy efficiency and clean energy programs to several urban and suburban Puget Sound communities. She is currently creating an energy assistance program for small businesses and developing clean energy strategies for tribal and municipal governments. Michelle holds an MA in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as a BA in History and Environmental Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
