Ruth builds on 20 years of experience designing and implementing stormwater pollution prevention, recycling, and water conservation strategies to manage programs that result in outcomes for her clients. She currently leads Powerful Neighborhoods, a Seattle City Light program providing and installing energy efficiency devices including CFL light bulbs, showerheads, aerators, and insulated pipe wrap to thousands of low income, non-English, and senior households in south Seattle. Ruth also oversees Seattle’s Resource Venture, a comprehensive technical assistance program helping businesses conserve resources, prevent pollution, and become more sustainable. Ruth manages evaluations of stormwater education and inspection programs for Seattle Public Utilities’ National Pollution Discharge and Elimination System (NPDES) permit and manages a large scale outreach program to increase recycling among businesses in Hayward, CA. Ruth has employed a variety of strategies to achieve behavior change among businesses including focus groups, door-to-door canvassing, resource savings calculators, and recognition. As a naturalist for King County Parks and the Pritchard Beach Wetland, Ruth has led classroom and field educational programs. Ruth is a board member of the Seward Park Audubon Environmental Learning Center and received a Denny Award for her volunteer efforts in southeast Seattle parks since 1996. Ruth holds a BA in Environmental Studies and Biology from Macalester College.
