Climate and Energy

Carbon Coach Training
Client: Seattle, WA
Cascadia staff worked in partnership with the City of Seattle and Washington State University to create a team of community volunteers to provide outreach on climate issues in the City of Seattle.  Participants learned about how transportation, solid waste generation, energy and water use, and purchasing choices impact a person’s carbon footprint. The new Carbon Coaches also learned about civic engagement, policy development, carbon offsets, and more!

These new volunteers are branching out into their communities to and are currently collecting Action Plan Pledges from 30 Seattle residents by the end of the year. This means 900 Seattle residents will pledge to take action and reduce their carbon footprint!

Cascadia’s GHG footprint calculator has been a cornerstone of our work with businesses. The SCP has been told that we have one of the best tools in the country for business use, due to its transparency (all sources and calculations are cited), flexibility (pre-loaded information is available if businesses don’t have access to specific data), and ease-of-use (it’s good even for beginners—there’s a checklist for “data needed” and tips on where to find it).
