Climate Strategy Tools
Client: Seattle Climate Partnership
The City of Seattle’s Office of Sustainability & Environment and the Seattle Climate Partnership asked Cascadia to develop tools and resources to help Seattle-area employers understand and reduce carbon emissions. Cascadia developed a resource guide and carbon footprint calculator to help Seattle-area employers understand, measure, and reduce their climate change impacts. The resource guide makes the business case for action, describes key steps to measure and reduce carbon emissions, and highlights important local resources and success stories. The calculator offers businesses a robust yet straightforward tool to help organizations benchmark and track emissions and prioritize reduction strategies. In 2008, Cascadia developed a restaurant-specific resource and climate conservation guide and conducted two sector-specific workshops with the business community to highlight climate protection successes and opportunities.

Cascadia’s GHG footprint calculator has been a cornerstone of our work with businesses. The SCP has been told that we have one of the best tools in the country for business use, due to its transparency (all sources and calculations are cited), flexibility (pre-loaded information is available if businesses don’t have access to specific data), and ease-of-use (it’s good even for beginners—there’s a checklist for “data needed” and tips on where to find it).
