Climate Change Policy Initiatives
Client: Seattle City Council
For this project, Cascadia was charged with assembling a legislative agenda to guide the Seattle City Council in addressing climate change. Building on Seattle's existing Climate Action Plan, Cascadia researched and identified legislative initiatives and bold new approaches to help the City meet its ambitious goal of reducing emissions 2% per year, for an overall reduction of 80% by 2050. In addition to reducing emissions, the project’s goals include the development of fresh legislative policies for adapting to the anticipated effects of climate change. To meet these goals, Cascadia led a team of experts for this project including Climate Solutions, Sightline Institute, and ICLEI—Local Governments for Sustainability.

Cascadia’s GHG footprint calculator has been a cornerstone of our work with businesses. The SCP has been told that we have one of the best tools in the country for business use, due to its transparency (all sources and calculations are cited), flexibility (pre-loaded information is available if businesses don’t have access to specific data), and ease-of-use (it’s good even for beginners—there’s a checklist for “data needed” and tips on where to find it).
