Baseline Carbon Footprint and Sustainability Survey
Client: The Episcopal Church
In early 2008, the Episcopal Church Executive Council passed a resolution with a commitment to establish and reduce its carbon footprint to 15%–20% below baseline levels by 2020 and 80% below baseline levels by 2050. To start working toward this goal, the Church contracted with Cascadia Consulting Group, Inc. to conduct a baseline carbon footprint. Cascadia assisted the Episcopal Church in measuring emissions from the Church’s US operations including building energy use in offices, employee commuting, key materials, and business travel – including that of the Church’s many councils and boards. Cascadia also measured the impacts of the operations of the Church’s triennial General Convention. To streamline future assessments, Cascadia customized our carbon calculator for the Church to use to measure progress towards their reduction targets. Cascadia applauds the Episcopal Church for setting these ambitious and important goals and was thrilled to work on this project.

Conducting an assessment of our environmental impact allowed us to more clearly define and share our progress with guests and employees, as well as to create benchmarks and strategies for the future. Working with Cascadia Consulting on our hotel footprint was an incredibly successful experience and we are planning to continue our work with them to explore the impact of additional areas of our operation.
