Green Gardening Program

Location: Washington

Over the past two decades, Seattle Public Utilities’ Green Gardening program has educated thousands of nursery and landscape professionals on ecologically responsible lawn and garden practices. Cascadia has managed the program for over a decade, and trains 600 nursery staff, horticulture students, and landscape design and maintenance professionals each year. [e1] Using cultural competency principles, we develop and offer additional special trainings for Latino, Vietnamese, and Cambodian landscape professionals in their languages. Cascadia leads all aspects of these trainings and workshops, including promotion, instruction, recruitment of guest presenters, collateral creation, logistics coordination, and evaluation.

Our team also facilitates the development of case studies on sustainable practices. Results of our ongoing research have been used to inform workshop and training topics and help shape the program as it continues to grow.

I wanted to provide some specific feedback on your team. They were terrific to work with. I was so impressed with their thoroughness, excellent coordination, and ability to tailor the presentation to the federal audience and the multiple locations. They were also up for anything--doing a waste sort in a conference room via videoconferencing! I’m sure this is not a traditional request, but they made it work. The attendees were very engaged and I sincerely believe that this training will result in on the ground improvements.
