Julia is the Director of Cascadia's California office, supporting our Oakland-based team in providing responsive and high-quality services and deliverables across all lines of business. Julia brings more than 12 years of experience designing and implementing waste reduction, pollution prevention, and resource conservation programs for public agencies and corporate clients. Before joining Cascadia, Julia worked at the San Francisco Department of the Environment Zero Waste program where she oversaw the recycling, composting, reuse programs and green purchasing policies for City and County municipal operations, comprised of over 1,000 locations including the parks, public hospitals, and county jails. By employing community-based social marketing principles, facilitating stakeholder meetings, and developing tools to more accurately report waste generation, Julia helped San Francisco reach an 80% diversion rate for its municipal operations and save over $500,000 annually on its hauling costs. Prior to that, Julia worked as an in-house consultant to Levi Strauss & Co, where she managed the company's chemical inventory database and trained manufacturing and sewing facility staff on the company's best environmental practices. Julia studied Environmental Policy Analysis and Planning at UC Davis and obtained a Master's in Communications from the University of Pennsylvania.
