Emily’s background in environmental resource management focuses on both solid waste and water conservation. Previously specializing in water-efficient landscapes for the City of Santa Barbara, she has experience managing landscape rebate programs, overseeing irrigation budgets, and surveying indoor and water systems. As part of the Recycling Materials and Management Team, Emily specializes in food loss, zero waste initiatives, and waste characterization studies to support waste reduction and conscious materials management. She has worked directly with hundreds of businesses, multi-unit property complexes, single-family residents, and government agencies to increase sustainability efforts. In addition contributing research, data analysis and writing skills, she fosters community engagement through public education. Emily is bilingual and spearheaded all Spanish language communication, translation, and outreach efforts in each role previously held. She holds a B.A. from UC Santa Barbara in Global Studies with a minor in Women, Culture, and Development. Emily is a lover of international travel and spent three years traveling and studying in Latin America. She is passionate about the great outdoors and healthy living, and you’re most likely to find her backpacking, gardening, experimenting with fermentation, or getting crafty.
