Helen recently graduated from the University of Washington with a dual honors B.A. in English and Environmental Studies. She currently works on a range of communications and outreach projects, working with residents and businesses to provide information on how to reduce waste and recycle, save water, increase carpooling, and more. As a student, she worked with Cascadia to provide multifamily recycling outreach and participate in various waste characterization studies across the county. Her interest in waste management grew as she participated in this work, coupled with her interdisciplinary studies relating to sustainability and equity. She also immersed herself in a variety of field courses exploring the Pacific Northwest and held several teaching roles on environmental topics. Before joining Cascadia in 2018, she worked on a combined organic coffee plantation and ecotourism guesthouse in the tropical rainforest of India’s Western Ghats.
Growing up in the desert landscape of Las Vegas, Helen enjoys rainy Seattle as it gives her an incentive to stay indoors reading or napping. While she loves a good find during her solo adventures to the local farmer’s markets, used bookshops, and thrift stores, she’ll happily settle to snacking with friends.
